What is podiatry

  1. Home
  2. What is Podiatry

Podiatry (also known as chiropody) is medical speciality that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases defects and injuries of the foot, ankle and lower limb.  This includes ankle and foot injuries, gait (walking) abnormalities, complications related to medical conditions such as diabetes, diseases of the skin and nails such as cracked heels, ingrown toenails, neuromas, fungal infections and other conditions.

Who needs to see a podiatrist?

This is simple – if your feet hurt then this is the way of your body telling you that something is wrong. Foot problems can also be prevented by visiting a podiatrist regularly for a foot health check-up. Remember prevention is always better than a cure!

Scope of practise:

  • Podiatry has a big scope of practise including
  • Diabetic Care
  • Routine Chiropody
  • Podopaediatrics
  • Sports Injuries
  • Lower Limb mechanical abnormalities
  • Minor procedures
  • Nail Care
